UMOM Food Bank To Close - by Arnie B

9.28.06

Three years ago during UMOM's strategic planning meeting, the board and senior staff placed new emphasis on sheltering and housing homeless families as the mission of the agency. It was decided at that time that the food bank fell outside of the redefined mission of UMOM.

The decision was a difficult one when the board and senior staff of UMOM met to discuss the closing of the Food Bank. It was decided that if it could be done without harm to the people in its neighborhood and we could find alternate sources, they would go ahead with the closing.

The Missions committee of Light of Hope met and decided that it would be best to transition our services to the needs of the Chandler Christian Community Center.

Please continue to bring your food donations to church on the first Sunday of each month. Thank you very much for your continuing concern for helping the hungry.

Next months needs:  mac and cheese, tomato sauce, ketchup, pasta, condensed milk, jello, apple sauce, juice.

Letter from UMOM

Dear Pastor Anthony,
Thank you so much for all of the letters your congregation wrote to their Representatives and Senators.  We appreciate this support in serving as a voice to help encourage funding for homeless supportive services.
God Bless,

'Dear Friends' a note from our Mexico Missionaries

God’s hand has been visible in our lives also. Although the last two months have been difficult I finished up the last of my chemotherapy with its painful side effects, hospital stays, etc. With that phase of treatment completed, I started the seven weeks of radiation in late October. God has surrounded us with love and strength, as well as the care and messages of family, friends and strangers. We are very grateful.  [more...]
