Children begin worship with adults and then go to Sunday
School after Pastor Anthony's Children's Moment. Sunday School is
out at the same time as church, 10:30.
For safety, parents please pick up your children from
Sunday School.

Six children came for the maiden voyage of our Kid's
Choir on Wednesday, February 13th. Great spirit was shown and a good
time was had by all. Keep us in your prayers folks! Anyone
interested in helping develop an enthusiastic love of "church" music is
invited to join me, Judy, and the participating children aged 5 through
12 at Light of Hope from now till the end of April. It's going to be
great fun! Practice is on Wednesday nights from 5:00-5:45 p.m.
If necessary, the rehearsal time can be altered to fit parent's
schedules.
For more information, email
Pastor Anthony
or call the church office at 480-831-5111.

| Creating Something Beautiful
for God - Children's Time |
|
By Pastor Anthony
I am so excited about our first three Autumn contributions to
our Children's Time in Worship! The task for our children
is to create something beautiful for God and to
put it in the basket for Sunday morning. They can use any of
their talents/gifts that they want to use, just so long as they
use them for God and to make something beautiful.
 |
For January 22nd,
Nickolaus J. worked very
hard at creating several pieces
of art for God! The pen picture
shown here is of animals (look
closely and you’ll see a grand
buffalo in there).
 |
|
There
are two very beautiful
color pictures also
shown here that look
pretty for God.
Poppy
(i.e., Grandpa) also
helped Nick to draw two
more scenes, one of a
manger scene and one of
an angel.
The final
inclusion in the basket
is accompanied by a note
that says |
“Picture of Bro and Nickolaus is
for God to remember who did the
pictures.”
Thank
you, Nickolaus, for your
enthusiasm and joy
in creating beautiful pictures
for God!

For January 15th,
Karson T. used
markers, stickers, and different
kinds of paper to make a collage
of God's creation.
On the top is
an ocean of fish and jewels, the
middle is a collage of patterns
with the truth that “God makes
everything beautiful,” and on
the top is a field of joy-filled
flowers and a testimony that
“Karson ♥ God.”
Thank you,
Karson, for making a
collage of praise for God! |

On
December 11th, Katie S.
created a beautiful Christmas
Angel, just like the type that
announced the birth of our
Savior Jesus Christ on that very
first Christmas with
"Glory to God
in the highest heaven, and
on earth peace,
good will among people!"
Thank
you, Katie, for
reminding us of the joy of the
season.

|
 |
 |
| On
December 4th, Bethany P.
used crayons and paper to create
a thank you card for God with a
beautiful nativity scene
featuring the baby Jesus, Mary,
Joseph, two animals in the
stables and a star to lead the
way. What a great reminder of
why we celebrate Christmas and
the joy of this season.
The
front of the card says, "Thank
you for your son: Jesus!"
and the back says, "By: Bethany
P., age 8-1/2. My creation
for God. 12-3-05."
Thank
you, Bethany, for making
a beautiful card for God.

| On November
6th, Kelsey T. made a
God-inspired fortune teller. Being the
experiential art form it is, you can't
get the full experience of it here, but
we'll try giving you an idea...
On the outer shell, you
may choose between Israel, Korea, Costa
Rica, or Mickey Mouse. On the inside,
you may choose a color and a number.
Here are a few of the results: "Jesus
was so generous to sacrifice his life
for us." "God and Jesus will
always tell you the right thing to do."
"You will go to church next Sunday and
learn about the Lord your Father." |
|
 |
I especially love that last
one! (Just remember: pick Blue 1).
Thank you, Kelsey, for making a
beautiful fortune teller for God!

For October 30th, we had a new family
to LOHUMC participate in Creating Something
Beautiful for God.
Anne and David Sr.
contributed a photo of their children,
David Jr. drew a picture of our
altar area of our sanctuary, Deirdre
drew her family, and
Caitlyn drew abstract art in light pink
and some yellow. |

|
|
Thank you all for
working together to make beautiful
creations for God. |

Carolyn C.'s
Painting of the Butterfly after Katrina
On September 11th, our Sunday morning church
bulletin contained a letter by Bishop Hope
Morgan Ward of the Mississippi Annual Conference
in reflection over Hurricane Katrina. He shared,
"On Sunday, a yellow butterfly fluttered over
the bread and cup on a makeshift table by the
ruins of one of our churches in Gulfport as we
spoke the familiar words, 'Christ has died,
Christ is risen, Christ will come again."
Our own Carolyn C. read those
words, found an online photo of the said
Mississippi City
UMC in Gulfport and used these as
inspiration to paint a picture for God with the
gifts put into her soul.
I am so thankful that Carolyn
would share her creation with me and has given
permission to share this with you. We will have
the original on the church altar Sunday morning.
There are so many wonderful
ways to create something beautiful for God.
Thank you, Carolyn, for sharing your
gifts of painting with our church. |

| For October 23, Dallas
V. and Sam C. created, "Dallas
and Sam's Photo Album for God. Thank you God!!"
Inside, the two boys included photos of their
family members, themselves, and their trip to
the zoo among others. On the back page,
they wrote, "Thank you God for all the
people and things in my life!!! Dallas & Sam
love God!!!" This was a fabulous use of
creativity and hard work.
Thank you, Sam and Dallas,
for making something so beautiful for God.
Here's one of Sam and Dallas at the zoo! |

For
October 16th, Sevrin S. wandered through his
back yard and at the nearby park collecting supplies for
his beautiful creation: a butterfly made of a twig,
leaves, flowers, bark and a feather. Sevrin used pieces
of God's nature to make a new creation for God!
Thank you, Sevrin, for making a beautiful
butterfly for God.

 |
| For
October 9th, Keegan R. used orange and
green dyed pumpkin seeds to create an art piece for God
of a pumpkin! Grandpa tells me that Keegan stirred
up the seeds to make sure they were all colored and then
glued the seeds onto the paper by himself.
Thank you, Keegan, for
spending so much time to create a beautiful pumpkin for
God. |
|
 |
 |
| For
October 2nd, Kayleigh M. used red and
blue construction paper to make a bold, yet delicate,
sculpture for God! The individual bands interwove
to create one artistic piece. It reminded me of
how we are all individuals, but are interwoven into one
loving church.
Thank you, Kayleigh, for
working so hard for God on your beautiful sculpture.

 |
For September 25th, Karson T. bravely
started the season by working with him mom to make wonderfully
delicious, frosted cookies. Fortunately, they were so tasty that
they were all eaten; unfortunately, they were all eaten before
we could take a picture of them! Thank you, Karson,
for putting your love into those cookies.
|
For those of us (children and adults) who
aren't used to making something beautiful for God, it can be
hard work to think of what we want to create. But just
remember: If we make it for God, and we give our best effort and
do our best job that we can, God will always love our gift.

THE HEIFER PROJECT -
Progress Update!
Each week in Sunday School a collection is taken for the
Heifer Project. On November 7th, the Sunday School
students will be voting on what type of animal they would like
to purchase for donation. |
|
 |
| Please continue to have the
children bring their offering so we may continue this mission.
If you are not familiar with the Heifer Project you can visit
the Heifer International website
or speak with Claire Jackoski. Here’s a brief overview:
Heifer Mission & Work around the World
Heifer International has a unique and successful approach to
ending hunger and poverty. Since 1944, Heifer has provided food-
and income-producing animals and training to millions of
resource-poor families in 115 countries and promoted
self-reliance, which builds self-esteem and helps families lift
themselves out of poverty.
Heifer's grassroots approach lets people and
communities make their own decisions about how to improve their
lives. As partners work together to overcome obstacles, they
strengthen their communities and foster democracy.
At the heart of Heifer's philosophy is the
commitment families make to "pass on the gift," by sharing one
or more of their animal's offspring with other families in need.
Helping others ensures dignity and multiplies the benefits of
the original gift from generation to generation. |
